I also love to read, knit, travel and spend time with my family and friends. Hi, I am on the road today but yes, it is definitely included with MBX v4.5. I am almost 100% sure it is accessed in the FILE tab on the top tool bar. Click that & Crosstitch should be one of the options on the drop down menu. It is not with the icons on the side of the MBX screen.

Either let me know you found it or I will confirm this evening when I have had a chance to open up the software to double check. And yes, you do have cross stitch fill with the freehand tool but you also do have the whole cross stitch package too in this version of the software.
